Live Public Sand Mandala Demonstrations by David Nez

Sunday, June 11, 2023

Free and open to all

Witness the creation of these site-specific temporary sand mandalas and then watch as the weather and environment changes and erases them.

Two times and locations:

11 am at the JAC rear parking lot

5 pm at the Bandstand at North Kingstown Town Beach (40 Beach St, North Kingstown)

Event Details:

A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall exhibiting artist, David Nez, joins the JAC and the North Kingstown Arts Council for an insider look into his art practice of sand mandalas. These live demonstrations are free and open to the public.

In the event of rain at 11 am, it will be relocated to the Jamestown Arts Center Main Gallery. The 5 pm demonstration will proceed at the Bandstand, rain or shine.

David shares, [Mandalas] “are ephemeral and temporary by nature, intended as performative healing mandalas  of sorts—reminders of the fragile interconnectedness of human culture and natural ecosystems.”
