Opening Events for African Avant-Garde

Saturday, May 8:

Community Collage Workshop

11 am - 1 pm

Opening Reception

2 - 4 pm

Reservations recommended for the reception as capacity will be limited

Celebrate the opening of a new exhibition African Avant-Garde: Aboudia and Frédéric Bruly Bouabré at the Jamestown Arts Center with two events: an outdoor collage workshop from 11 am - 1 pm and an opening reception from 2 - 4 pm!

During the public collage workshop, the community is invited to cover the mural wall behind the JAC in a collage, an homage to Aboudia's process of combining collage and painting and to World Collage Day, also happening on May 8. Once the wall is dry, the public is invited back to contribute to the evolving collage for the duration of the exhibition. This workshop is free and will be held outdoors.

Following the workshop, there will be an opening reception for African Avant-Garde with the curator Ethan Cohen. Reservations are recommended for a 30 minutes time slot to view the exhibition in the gallery as capacity will be limited indoors.
