This class is designed for printmakers and artists that are ready to explore printmaking techniques beyond traditional paper. Using various processes to create printing plates, participants will learn to print onto various materials such as canvas, paper bags, clothing, found materials and more. This will allow students to utilize materials they may already have laying around at home, or to print on materials that could become functional. Maybe you want to create your own textile design on a plain piece of fabric? Or maybe you want to print on an old T-shirt that needs some new life. Possibly you have been collecting brown paper bags and the pile has become too high, and you want to give them purpose. Students will not only learn to create a printing plate, but also to prepare fabrics, non-traditional paper and textures to print on. Materials to experiment with will be provided, but students will also be encouraged to bring in their own fabrics and materials to print on. Please bring your own apron to protect your clothes from ink in the studio, if this is a concern to you.
Casey Weibust is an award-winning artist, curator, and is currently serving as the Art Director of Out of The Box Studio and Gallery in Jamestown, RI. Casey, who grew up in Jamestown, RI, received her BFA in printmaking from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
