Whether you are starting your drawing practice or looking to refresh your skills, join world-renowned exhibiting artist Lisa Barsumian for a one-day immersive drawing workshop designed to enhance your observational skills and strengthen your mark-making abilities.
Lisa Barsumian brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her travels across the USA and abroad to her unique teaching and art-making practice. Her drawing, painting, and printmaking style highlights and elevates the quiet, intimate moments of everyday life. Now a resident of Jamestown, RI, and represented by Jeff Soderbergh Fine Art in Portsmouth, RI, and Wellfleet, MA, we are excited to welcome Lisa to the Jamestown Arts Center studios for this special in-person workshop. In Lisa’s words, “Drawing is a practice. It’s about seeing first and then simply making marks that—more or less—reflect what is seen. In this workshop, we’ll use black ink on white paper to draw the everyday objects that surround us—a vitamin bottle, coffee cups, a spoon, a favorite shoe, a vase of flowers. You may be surprised by the simplicity and harmony found in this way of working. Artists of all levels are welcome; just bring an open mind.”
Please note: This workshop will be held twice this winter, on January 25 and February 22. These sessions are standalone - they are not cumulative. Students are welcome (but not required) to attend both workshops to deepen their drawing experience.
