Outdoor Sculpture at the JAC

The Jamestown Arts Center's Exterior Initiatives committee seeks proposals for exhibition on their sculpture pad. The pad enhances the JAC’s ability to host 3-dimensional artwork, and places art outside where it is freely accessible and visible to all. Artworks that are suitable for all audiences in this family-friendly space are encouraged.

Applications will be reviewed and selected by the Exterior Initiatives committee. Rhode Island residents, emerging artists, BIPOC, women, LGBTQIA+ community members and people with differing physical abilities are highly encouraged to apply.

Honorarium for loan of artwork: $500

PRACTICALITIES:

Selected artists will coordinate with the JAC regarding secure installation of the artwork. Installation method will be agreed upon in advance. The artist is responsible for transporting the artwork to and from Jamestown, and will work with the JAC staff on its installation.

The useable surface of the pad measures 48” x 48”. The pad is cast concrete with a steel plate, allowing for works to be attached by bolting or welding to the steel plate. All works must utilize the plate; new drilling into the concrete is not permitted.

Sculptures are viewed by vehicle traffic leaving the library and traveling on Valley Street, and by families visiting the community playground. Accordingly, all artworks must be suitable for display in a public setting.

Chosen artworks will be on display for an average of 3-months each. Artwork will be insured for value and liability while on display. The JAC will provide identifying signage and lighting. Artwork may be offered for sale.

Please submit photos of your artwork if it already exists, or a sketch or mock-up if you intend to create it via this submission form. Please include a short statement detailing either your vision for the piece, why it is compelling for Jamestown, or how it relates to one of the season’s exhibitions, and a one paragraph narrative biography. While not required, examples of existing work are helpful (website, Instagram, etc). Be sure to include your contact information.
