Newport String Project

Newport County Concert Series - III
Saturday, February 8th at 3pm
$25 General Admission
$35 Supporter Level Ticket

ABOUT THE EVENT:

The Newport String Project is delighted to return to the Jamestown Arts Center on Saturday February 8th at 3pm with an evocative afternoon of music for string quartet.

The Newport String Quartet will perform works by Beethoven and Shostakovich alongside a set of contrasting and rarely heard works by three extraordinary court composers from the 17th century.

Joan Miro, The Smile of the Flamboyant Wings, 1953.

In celebration of JAC's current exhibit, The Sun, the Newport String Quartet is delighted to feature Dobrinka Tabakova's The Smile of Flamboyant Wings inspired by Joan Miro's painting of the same name. The large red circle in Miro's work has often been interpreted as a sun-like presence and Tabakova brilliantly uses the sounds of the string quartet to convey radiant energy, warmth and light.
