Join us for the premiere of Second Chance Cafe, the South County Filmmakers’ latest short film in which the already stressed life of an Iraq war veteran is complicated when a Syrian refugee family moves in next door. Run time is 15 minutes.
After the film, three speakers will present information expanding on issues posed in the movie. The talks will be open for discussion and questions from the audience.
The guest speakers are:
– Joan Dwyer, co-creator and owner of the All That Matters yoga center in Wakefield, RI. A granddaughter of Syrians, Joan will give a presentation on A Visit to Syria. She believes that inner peace leads to world peace, and that is all that matters.
– Bill Wright, who will discuss veteran issues. Bill is a National Guard veteran, having served numerous tours of duty overseas. He works with veterans to help them cope with the ravages of war.
– Abdelnasser Hussein, born in Egypt, will speak about immigration. In the movie he plays Mazen Allouba alongside his son, Albaraa, who plays Adel. A former Principal of the Islamic School of Rhode Island, Nasser is familiar with the issues of immigrants and refugees from many countries.
The South County Filmmakers (SCF) are retirees who have reinvented themselves as movie makers.
The SCF is a non-profit organization based in Wakefield, RI.
