Newport String Project Performance

The Newport String Quartet

Emma Powell, Ealain McMullin, violins; Emily Edelstein, viola and Jacob MacKay, cello, brings a vividly colorful program of music for string quartet to the Jamestown Arts Center.

The concert will feature an uplifting quartet by the remarkable 18th century French composer, Chevalier de Saint Georges, alongside Caroline Shaw's atmospheric "Entracte" which has quickly become a contemporary classic. The concert will conclude with a performance of Prokofiev's vibrant String Quartet in D major that blends folk influences with irresistibly colorful textures and rhythms.

About the Newport String Project

Anchored by the residency of its artists-in-residence the Newport String Quartet, the Newport String Project aims to build a community that crosses boundaries of generation, heritage, and economic circumstances through access to inspiring musical experiences for all. Alongside its professional concert series, the project also provides free lessons in violin, viola and cello to 47 students through an innovative, long-term partnership with the MLK Community Center.
