Workshop Overview:

Curators Casey Weibust and Melissa Seitz will be hosting drop-in workshops in their respective mediums of printmaking and weaving to offer visitors a glimpse into the processes used by many of the artists in the Harnessing Color exhibition. Free to the public, visitors are invited to create works of fiber art on various looms in the Main Gallery and monotype prints on paper in the Printmaking Studio. Some of the exhibiting artist will be demonstrating and facilitating and participants are welcome to spend as little or as much time in each area as they choose during the 12 – 3 pm period. This is a family friendly event that is open to all ages. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Printmaking:

Immerse yourselves in orange while learning varieties of monotype printmaking techniques. Students will use stamps, stencils, plants, rollers and brushes to create their own unique monochromatic works using the etching press. The completed works will be displayed in the JAC studio spaces during the duration of the exhibit, Outsider Art: Harnessing Color.

Weaving:

The gallery will be filled with various types of looms for visitors to try their hand at weaving. Artists and staff from Downtown Designs Gallery will be demonstrating a variety of weaving techniques on three tabletop ridged heddle looms, two tabletop 4 shaft looms, one 4 shaft floor loom and various size lap looms. Using an assortment of yarn and fabric, visitors will be guided to add their own unique, magical touch to each loom on display.
