Gallery Night

Bring in your friends and family for extended gallery hours and a beverage of your choice during the last gallery night of 2022.

A special performance of Casual and Connected returns with dancer Katie Moorehead and bassist Genevieve Rose, with support from The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County.

Katie Moorehead and Genevieve Rose will activate the galleries with music and dance.

Katie Moorhead returns to the JAC! About the Dancer:

KATIE MOORHEAD (Media, PA) trained at Oxford Center for Dance and began to choreograph from age 9. She credits this early introduction of her knowledge and creativity in music and story to her Director and first ballet teacher, Dina Gazzero. At 15, she performed with Russian Ballet Theater, DE in Robert LaFosse “Nutcracker Suite.” She placed a Silver Metal in Ballet and Contemporary junior division at the Youth American Grand Prix. Graduated with honors from the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington DC, she joined Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida. She received an Honorable Merit Diploma from the Tersiphora Foundation of St. Petersburg, Russia marking her understanding of the Vaganova Method from Alla Osipenko. She has worked with numerous Ballet and Contemporary companies such as American Repertory Ballet, Eglevsky Ballet, Staten Island Ballet, Bradley Shelver Contemporary Dance Theatre, and Collective Body Dance Lab, Indelible Dance Company, and more.

Katie’s International tours include Denmark, Poland, Italy, Australia and Kazakhstan. In NYC, she was Rehearsal Director for Untitled-Collective (based NYC and Australia) where she re-staged company work for various festivals. U-C was the first dance company to perform at the United Nations in NYC and Washington, DC. Katie performed in the Dumbo Festival, La Mama Moves, Central Park for Summer Stage Festival and at City Center for Career Transition for Dancers Fundraiser. She choreographed and performed for the Long Island Opera 50th anniversary gala, a very memorable experience in 2011.

She was a ballet substitute at Alvin Ailey Extension Program for Kat Wildish. During the fall of 2014, she directed and produced a benefit performance joining dancers, artist, and musicians at the Jamestown Arts Center, titled “Pro-Aesthetic.” Katie began dancing with Island Moving Company as a guest dancer in the

spring of 2013 and joined the company that winter. She has performed for the Newport Art House and Water for Cambodia fundraisers. She performed work by Ali K. Brodsky at As220 as well as joining As220 to perform in the PVDFEST in 2017. The next year she assisted Polabolus Dance company for the PVDFEST. She has been a guest artists for Connecticut Concert Ballet, Northeast Youth Ballet and has been invited to join the Tiny Dances three times curated by Ali K. Brodsky.

Katie is the solo dancer featured in the film “Acquiescence” directed and choreographed by Attila Csiki. The film was inspired from a solo she performed of his the year prior. In 2018, the film and a live performance premiered at the Jamestown Arts Center.

In 2021, she directed “On Deck: Moves and Grooves” in collaboration with the Tiverton Four Corners Arts Center that brought a special evening of live music and dance to the community. Recently, she has been developing film work and enjoys continuing her education, collaborating with artists, traveling and exploring as much as possible, especially time on any beach. She owns and runs GYROTONIC® Newport.
